Macario Polo Usaola is a Professor in the Department of Information Technologies and Systems at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM). He heads the Testing Group at UCLM in addition to collaborating as an expert in the Software Quality and Testing Center for the company, Panel Sistemas.
Over the last few years, he and his team have been working, first, on developing and automating test techniques, especially for systems built with MDA and, second, on adapting and transferring the “mutation” testing technique to the industrial setting. In this respect, they have been developing the BACTERIO test setting, integrating a large part of the mutation strategies designed by the scientific community during years of research. BACTERIO has developed through both pure research projects as well as competitive projects, receiving public grants to transfer technology to the business community.
In addition to various courses, presentations, speeches and articles, Macario has recently published a survey on mutation techniques in IEEE Software (vol. 27: 3), perhaps the most widely read software engineering journal in the scientific and industrial communities.
